Each state has passed a law determining the minimum motor vehicle insurance. If you do not opt for insurance or if you opt for insufficient insurance, you will be guilty of violating the law. Skipping auto insurance may provide short term benefits but will be profitable in the long run.
No vehicle can be operated without a valid license tag and no tag shall be supplied unless proof of updated auto insurance is submitted to the authorities. Not opting for insurance and not opting license tag is a serious offense and you may be fined and your license may be suspended.
Your Car Can Be Towed
If the authorities catch you using your vehicle with valid and sufficient insurance, your car will be towed away and you will have to pay for the same. Damage caused by an uninsured motorist is borne by the State. If you drive without insurance and suffer or cause damage in an accident, you are placing yourself at great risk. On the other hand, auto insurance ensures all parties are protected.
Want To Be Sued
If you drive without insurance, you may lose your car and also may be sued by the other party who suffered due to your fault. You may be sued for not just hospital expenses but even for compensation for pain and suffering caused.
Apart from auto insurance, there is there no other protection available to the driver of a vehicle if involved in an accident. Your car will pay for the repair of your vehicle as well. As all you need to do is pay your part of the bargain called the deductible. If your car is totaled, then you will get assistance in purchasing a new car.
Can you permanently avoid purchasing auto insurance
Obviously not! When you do apply, insurers will immediately find out that you have been driving without adequate insurance. Insurers maintain a database for this purpose.
Those drivers who skip insurance will not be refused insurance. They simply will be treated as high risk persons and shall enjoy only provisional coverage at very high cost. Needless to say, skipping insurance will cost you a lot in the long run.
